National Passenger Rail Service Secures Sensitive File Transfer

Our client functions as the implementing arm of the National Department of Transport whose main objectives are to ensure rail commuter services are provided within, to and from the country in the public interest, and to provide long haul passenger rail and bus services within, to and from the country.

The governmental agency discovered a security flaw in the way it was transferring sensitive financial information to various financial organisations opening the business up to potential theft of funds. There were a number of issues with the process but the overriding problem was caused by the ease with which files could be intercepted despite using a well respected secure file transfer platform.

we were invited, by referral, to investigate the process and technologies used with the flawed setup and subsequently proposed a bespoke solution which would dramatically reduce the number of human interactions the files and minimize persistence of sensitive data which was accepted and given the go ahead.

After 6 weeks of development and testing a fully bespoke secure managed file transfer platform was implemented.

Sensitive files are now created and transferred securely with out any human interaction. Logs and reports are generated to show the success or failure of transfers with headline statistics. There is no longer any persistence of the data once the files are transferred.
